FIRST ANNUAL MEOW OR BOW-WOW PAPIER MACHE PET-MAKING WORKSHOP

DATE: SATURDAY, APRIL 27, 2013

My own papier mache Shelby marked the way for class members of our first annual Pet Making Workshop on Saturday. For me, it couldn't have been a more perfect day!

Students started working immediately. It was such a pleasure for me to watch beautiful animals rising out of piles of newspapers. The group was so into what they were doing I heard very little noise and watched as pets ranging in size from Chihuahuas and papillons (and one brave three legged cat!) to Newfoundlands and Giant Schnauzers appeared magically from cardboard and Styrofoam frames into gorgeous pieces of art.

The group finally managed to tear themselves away for a short lunch break (Laurie brought the wine!) and a chance to enjoy the studio view.

At the end of the day, the critters neared completion. Sadly, most went home with their owners. A few stayed back for students to continue work on them or to wait until they are dry enough to travel. I was glad to have a few stay behind for company!

Here I am helping with the Giant Schnauzer. We got to be good friends! I am hoping to meet the original one day!

Heading home after a day of creation. I thank all the participants. It was an incredible honor to be with such a wonderful and creative group of people. I hope to do this again soon!
I almost forgot to share one last thing!
After everyone left I started to clean up the studio.
Just as I thought I was ready to leave, in flew a hummingbird!
I have always considered them to be little heavenly spirts,
and was overjoyed that he came in to visit.
Happily, I got him out safely. I did, however,
consider it a sign that the day was indeed blessed!

SHARON'S DOG, JET, PRANCES WITH SHELBY'S DOUBLE

On July 3rd, 2013, our class participants agreed to meet in The Plaza in Santa Fe for a reunion. Since I hadn't seen the pets painted, it was great fun seeing the pack gather on this gorgeous Santa Fe afternoon. We grabbed some fajitas from the fajita stand and just had a great time watching passers-by, both human and animal, enjoying the event.
Sharon brought "The Real Jet" with her. Hard to tell them apart!
A confused dog examines Christine's "Sampson."
A great time, and some pretty darned great art! Thank you, class! Good dogs!
